SyncManager - Personal | £10 UK |
Davton SyncManager is an automated Synchronisation tool for users of Microsoft Outlook with Microsoft Exchange. It is designed to make a local copy of a Shared (Public) Folder, so that the contacts, appointments and Tasks are available easily in the users mailbox, and can be synchronised with the users PDA, Blackberry etc. The Enterprise version of SyncManager SyncManager-Enterprise is available to synchronise multiple mailboxes from one installation.
One Way Synchronisation
Currently the SyncManager carries out a one-way
synchronisation (from shared to personal) folders. Changes made to the
items in the local folder are not replicated back
to the central folder, which keeps the usage simple and protects the
central folder.
Synchronise up to Three Shared Folders
Davton SyncManager can synchronise up to three
shared folders to one local folder. For example, it is possible to
consolidate information from three calendars folders, into one local
calendar folder.
Filter Shared Contacts on Categories
Davton SyncManager can filter the items in the shared
folders so that only a subset of the items are copied to the
local folder. This is useful for example where there are a large number of central
contacts, and the user only wants relevant contacts copied to her local
folder – for example on contacts with category ‘Northern Region’.
Regular Automated Synchronisation
Davton SyncManager will synchronise folders at an interval which you specify (say every 60
minutes). As long as there is a network connection to
your Exchange server, SyncManager will be able to carry out a background
synchronisation at regular intervals. It even works if Outlook is not
open – next time you log in to Outlook and exchange, your updates will
be waiting for you.
Works even with Hosted Exchange
If your MS Exchange service is hosted - SyncManager
will 'piggyback' on the Outlook connection to carry out its
synchronisation. In this case synchronisation will only be carried out
when Outlook is open and connected to the hosted Exchange service.
How it works
Davton SyncManager starts automatically when your computer starts in the morning. It is only visible as an icon in your system tray (see the green icon with the two arrows shown below). At regular intervals (say every 60 minutes) it will run its synchronisation routine.
![]()
If you right-click the icon in the system tray, there is a menu of options available. These include stopping and starting the SyncTimer (the icon will change from Green to Red if stopped to show that the Sync will not run), retrieving statistics about the last synchronisation, finding out when the next synchronisation is due, and forcing the system to synchronise now!
What about my existing data?
SyncManager will not change any existing items in a personal folder. When it copies items from the public folder, it adds some extra information so that it can keep track of where the contact has come from. When it checks to see if the contacts are still up to date, and meeting the filter criteria, it will ignore any contacts that don't have the right information in its information field.
If an update is made to an item in the public folder, the next time you run the synchroniser, it will delete the (now out of date) copy of the item in the local folder, and create a new updated copy.
If you make a change to an item in the local folder or on the PDA linked to the local folder it WILL NOT update the public folder. The changes will be over written next time a change is made to the contact in the public folders.
The public folder effectively becomes the 'Master' contact folder - and any changes or updates are made there.
