AD-Contacts

ADSync - Create an Internal Contact List

AD-Contacts Active Directory is the Directory Database used by Microsoft to store information about users. It is central to many aspects of a Microsoft Network. For example anyone with a mailbox on an Exchange Server will have their login details stored in Active Directory.

Although it is possible to get access to the Active Directory contact details in Outlook – through the ‘Global Address List’ – this is not available as a contact card, and the information cannot easily be transferred to a mobile phone.

ADSync will copy contacts from Active Directory - and create them as Outlook contacts in an Outlook Contact folder. The folder can be the contact folder in a personal mailbox, or a public contact folder in Exchange Public Folders.

Internal Address List

A typical requirement is for an internal address list to be made available to staff in the form of a public folder contact list in Outlook. Davton ADSync will create Outlook contact cards from the Active Directory records, and save them in a Public Folder. ADSync will then regularly check Active Directory, and add, update or delete the contacts if they change on Active Directory.

Internal Contacts on your Mobile Phone

If the internal address list is required when staff are out of the office, the contacts can be made available on their mobile phone. Davton’s SyncManager-Personal and SyncManager-Enterprise will copy contacts from a Public Folder to a user’s personal contacts folder – from where the contacts will automatically be synchronised with their mobile phone. SyncManager can be used in personal mode – for one user, or in enterprise mode – for multiple users.

Set-up

In order for ADSync to work correctly – it needs to be run from an account with access to Active Directory. The details of the active directory account need to be provided, along with the identity of the contact folder where the contacts need to be created.
